Day long flights can be quite the grind. Changing airplanes makes travelling a bit of a chore and certainly makes for ‘tooooo looong’ days. What are the options for biding the boredom away? These are the survival tactics for most: Read the same inflight magazine over and over. Surf as you wait in the airport lounge. And if you did not get enough CNN at home you can watch it on the TV lounge monitor. Watching a blank TV screen on the seat in front of you and read the exotic inflight magazine front to back. (Try to sleep) on the plane (this one does not cut it for me for fear motion sickness might creep in).
With the heavy DSLR packed away, the handy iPhone (4) was my small and trusty photo travelling companion and the only other thing than my store bought magazine in my plane buster boredom kit. The iPhone is light and easy to use and I can maneuver it into positions where I cannot with my DSLR: now that is what I call that LIBERATION – Yahoo indeed! I can see why it is the most popular camera in the world. Certainly gets me in and out of those tight spots.
As I travelled through the airport terminal, with airplanes clearly on the brain, the airport’s floor pattern caught my eye. I took a few photos as a design exercise.
My excitement at the end of the walk to my designated gate was a beer drinking Texan armadillo (apparently frozen in a drunken stupor) in the shop window. A little bit of amusement to lighten the plane boredom.
Here are a few glimpses of what I caught floating in and out of the clouds and through the airport terminal…
I thought I would change the processing on the last few images for a nostalgic look and feel.
