KC Lee (Lee Kian Choong) is an award-winning Singapore photographer and contemporary artist with more than four decades of professional and artistic experience. His photographic journey began in 1979, evolving through international recognition, professional portraiture, wedding photography, and photography education. Today, his work beautifully bridges the disciplines of traditional professional photography and contemporary artistic practice.
In 1989, KC Lee achieved the prestigious Fellowship (FRPS) of The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain in Portraiture-making him the first individual in Singapore to hold a Fellowship in this specialised category.
A History of Fine Art Photography Milestones & Global Recognition
Early International Recognition (1979-1989)

1979-1981 - Began his photographic journey in the UK while studying Control Systems and Computing Science at the University of Sheffield. During these formative years, he undertook advanced photographic studies under the tutorship of the late Richard Farrand, FRPS, FBIPP.

1983-1985 - Achieved early international recognition, receiving a Gold Medal and Bronze Medal at the 16th Malaysia International Salon of Photography, alongside a Certificate of Merit at the 18th event. His work was subsequently selected for exhibition by the international salons of New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Singapore, as well as the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain Annual International Colour Slide Competition.

1987 - Awarded Associateship (ARPS) of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain in the category Pictorial, later exhibiting his successful panel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was also named among the Top Ten in the Singapore National Creative Photography Exhibition.

1989 - Awarded the prestigious Fellowship (FRPS) of The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain in Portraiture.
Founding My Studio & Launching Photography Education in Singapore (1990-2007)

1990 - Attended the Master Photographers Association (MPA) UK National Convention, connecting with accomplished British professionals and the late American Master Photographer, Monte Zucker.

1990 - Began teaching photography at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Extra-Mural Department, where he was invited to hold an exhibition featuring his FRPS Fellowship panel.

1991 - Founded Portrait Master Studio, establishing a premier portrait and wedding photography practice. Over nearly two decades, he photographed royalty, government ministers, prominent public figures, families, and convocations.

1992 - Featured internationally with work published in the Photography Year Book, UK, by Fountain Press.

2007 - Closed the studio commercial operations to focus exclusively on his artistic career as a Singapore Contemporary Artist.

1991 - The late Dr. Chen Wen Hsi (Singapore pioneer artist) awaked in KC Lee a profound appreciation for the spirit, philosophy, and expressive possibilities of traditional Chinese painting.

1994 - Began studying Chinese ink painting under the influence of his close friend, the late Chen Shi Zhong, Vice President of the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy.

2006 - Graduated with a Master's Degree in Contemporary Practice from the University of Huddersfield, UK, in collaboration with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).
His latest master series, Art in Nature, represents the culmination of this journey-combining the strict discipline of camera craft with contemporary artistic practices to explore abstraction, form, texture, and light.
